For some of us Christmas is not a time of peace and happiness, but one when our anger comes to the front in a most unfortunate way. You may be sitting here reading this, deeply regretting the angry words used that were aimed to hurt, or the gestures made in the eye of the rage meltdown. Quite often this is the time of year when we experience the worst of our anger, and there can be two very simple causes of this anger.
 
The first is the expectation that we put on ourselves that ‘we should be enjoying Christmas’. This expectation carries an implicit demand within it, and it is the failure to meet this perceived demand that we impose on ourselves that drives our anger. Christmas is also a time when families and friends get together and share time, and sometimes people can outstay their welcome, even after a very short time. Here we find that our own personal boundaries have been crossed and this again is a trigger for our anger. Put these straightforward causes of anger together with the loss of empathy when the anger ramps itself up in you and that rage meltdown was inevitable.
